Mathematics Algebra for All Curriculum
Our school’s Algebra for All curriculum aligns closely with the New York State Next Generation Mathematics Standards, ensuring comprehensive preparation for students from sixth to eighth grade.
Starting in sixth grade, students are introduced to foundational algebraic concepts, such as variables, expressions, and equations, laying the groundwork for deeper understanding in subsequent years. Through hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and real-world applications, students develop their algebraic reasoning skills and mathematical fluency.
In seventh grade, the curriculum progresses to cover more advanced topics, including linear equations, inequalities, and functions. Students engage in activities that emphasize the connection between algebraic concepts and real-life situations, fostering a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and their relevance.
By eighth grade, students are expected to have a solid grasp of algebraic principles and be prepared to tackle more complex topics. The curriculum covers topics such as systems of equations, quadratic equations, and exponential functions. Students continue to refine their problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities through rigorous coursework and challenging problem sets.
Ultimately, our goal is for all students to be prepared to take the Algebra 1 Regents exam by the end of eighth grade. This exam serves as a benchmark for assessing students’ mastery of algebraic concepts and their readiness for high school mathematics coursework. Our Algebra for All curriculum ensures that students have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed not only on the exam but also in future math courses and beyond.
